As many of you know, we got our first dog this last summer (2020). *sigh* Not the wisest decision. It’s not her fault she’s stuck with us, and sometimes I really feel sorry for Maggie.

This month she turned 8 months old. Dillon called me while I was in town one day, to tell me Maggie had gotten a little blood on his arm when he picked her up. (She’s a Hanging Tree dog – not a small pup at all.) Dillon said he could not find any cuts on her. (She likes to chase the cows and has snagged the barbed wire once or twice.) I told him we’d talk to his Dad later that night. It hit me shortly after hanging up with him…..she’s a GIRL dog! We forgot to mention it to his dad, until two days later when there were a couple drops of blood on the floor. (I’m blessed with vinyl and linoleum throughout the house – except bedrooms.) I said to Dillon, “she’s a GIRL dog.” (dead silence) “oh,” said Dillon as the lightbulb went off. He, of course, did some research and reported that it can be every six months for her. Later he told me it can last one to two weeks. So, needless to say we spent the week wiping up “blood” spots with my Thieves cleaner and a rag.  When Dalton discovered “Maggie’s a girl dog”lol, he decided she needed a diaper. (MEN!!) As his girlfriend sits watching, he gets one of his old t-shirts and analyzes the best approach to make it work. I told him that is not a natural solution for her. (Natural would be leaving her outside where she was supposed to be, but that’s another story.) He explained that he would take it off when she went outside, yes, he’s nuts. He tried to wrangle it on her, but she would have none of it. She was moody and not happy with him after 5 minutes. I’d growl at him too!

Later that week she was whining at her snack box (she usually barks loudly when she wants something.)  She actually tried to stick her head in it! So, I gave her one….and then another.  James came into the living room and said, “I already gave her one.” I told him maybe she had cravings and one just didn’t cut it. LOL

Trey, my youngest, finally asked, “why is Maggie bleeding?” (It was his turn to clean up the floor.) I replied, “cause she’s a GIRL dog.” He gives me this funny look and says, “I know she’s a girl dog, but why is she bleeding?” I told him it has to do with her getting older and being able to be a mother. If he needed more information he needed to go talk to his dad. (haha)

After a week my boys suddenly quit cleaning up the floor, and I came home a little irate. I explained to them that the floor still needed to get cleaned up. Dalton and his genius idea is that he will just scrub the floor when she’s all done. (Ew, ew, ew and no, no, no!) If only that was a viable option. This was not one of those things I thought about when we got a GIRL dog, but I do know why we didn’t get a boy!!
